About the Community of Point Loma
Discovered by Europeans on September 28, 1542, Point Loma is a little seaside community just west of downtown San Diego known to feature the Cabrillo National Monument and the Nazarene University. Bordered by the Pacific Ocean on both the South and West sides, this hilly peninsula separates the San Diego Bay from the ocean and is home to two major military bases. A variety of commercial and residential areas can also be found here. In the heart of the Point Loma Village, near the famous Shelter Island, exist primarily retail establishments, Marina Services and nearby residential single-family homes.
About the Community of Sunset Cliffs
On the West side of Point Loma’s peninsula, sandstone cliffs run along the ocean coast. Geologically these cliffs are known as the Point Loma Formation that contain dinosaur fossils from the Late Cretaceous period, one of the few sites in the state containing dinosaur fossils. Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is home to beautiful vistas where you can take in the peninsula’s vast ocean views, watch locals surf, smell the salty sea air and possibly get a glimpse of a whale or two, while witnessing the most picturesque sunsets! Mainly a residential neighborhood since 1925, this area’s homes have been custom built to take advantage of the natural beauty this part of the California coast displays.
